With SNAP benefits likely to be stopped on November 1, here are some things to consider. According to Governor Healey, more than 1 million people across our state rely on SNAP benefits. Of those, 32% are children, 31% are people with disabilities, 26% are older adults. In the Town of Southbridge, approximately 36% of residents rely on SNAP to provide food for their families. On Wednesday of this week, Southbridge Food Share served a record number of 46 families ranging in size from 2 to 8!
What can you do to help the local pantries assist these residents?
1. Support the food drive being held by the Masons in Big Bunny Plaza this Saturday. (November 1st!)
2. Provide financial support to your local pantry – these are all run by volunteers and even a small donation makes a difference.
3. Volunteer some of your time to assist these pantries. Volunteers are needed during hours of operation and other times during the week as well.
Please consider donating to Food Share by either going on-line to our website’s Donation page or mailing a check to our PO Box #32 here in Southbridge. If you are interested in a volunteer activity, please email us at southbridgefoodshare.org@gmail.com.
